Women’s Day
The Sunrise Missionary Baptist Church of DeRidder will be conducting its Annual Women’s Day on May 17, 2009. The 11a.m. speaker will be Sis. Pam Jackson of the Sunrise MBC, and the 3 p.m. speaker will be Sis. Earlee Young of the Morning Star Baptist Church of Dequincy. Come out and be blessed.

Women’s Day Program

TLC Luncheon
The First United Methodist Church will present its TLC (The Lord’s Children) luncheon May 20 at 11 a.m. The program will be given by a singing group from West Leesville Elementary School. Admission is a covered dish. For further information call the church office  at 239-3828.

Retired Teachers
Vernon Parish Retired Teachers will meet at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 21 at the Vernon Parish Library. The guest speaker will be Mark Kramar from the Vernon Parish District Attorney’s Office.

 TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) will meet May 21 at the Vernon Parish Library.  Weigh-in is from 5:05 p.m. to 5:55 p.m.  The meeting starts at 6 p.m.  For further information call 537-8658.

Swing for Life Incrediball Tournament
The seventh annual Roger Parker Swing for Life Incrediball Tournament will be held on May 23 at the Simpson ball field on Hwy. 8 in Simpson. All proceeds go to help those with Lou Gehrig’s disease. Family Reunion
The Robinson family will have its family reunion at 10  a.m. Saturday, May 23 at Lone Star Baptist Church on Hwy. 112. Bring a covered dish and drinks.

The Power House C.O.G.I.C. of Knights will be conducting it's Annual Women's Day Service on May 24, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. Guest speaker will be Missionary Cassandra Weeks of New Harvest C.O.G.I.C., Leesville.

Sew Crazy Quilters Guild
The Sew Crazy Quilters Guild will hold its monthly meeting at 6;30 p.m Tuesday, May 26 at the Vernon Parish Library. Members are reminded to bring a Summer Fun Fat Quarter. Visitors are welcome.

Drivers Safety Course
 A.A.R.P. Chapter # 1199 is sponsoring a Drivers Safety Course  Friday May 29 at 8 a.m. until noon at the Vernon Parish Library. Please Register with June McClain at 337-239-6529. There is a $14. fee for nonmembers and $12 fee for National members. Bring your  A.A.R.P. cards. Most insurance companies will give a premium discount for completion of the course.

Saturday, May 30
Benefit Concert
 A benefit concert for Travis Johnson is set for Saturday, May 30 at 5 p.m. until at the Pitkin High School Auditorium featuring the Providential Quartet and local talent. A live auction and bake sale will also be conducted. All proceeds will go to help defray medical and funeral expenses for Travis’ wife, Elsie, who passed away from cancer. Bill Bailey Golf Tournament
The Leesville Rotary Club will be hosting its annual Bill Bailey Memorial Golf Tournament Saturday, May 30, 2009, at Fort Polk’s Warrior Hills Golf Course. The proceeds from the tournament will be utilized by the annual Rotary Club Scholarship Program for students in Vernon Parish. Format will be a 2-person scramble with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Entry fee is $70 per person which includes cart and green fees, lunch and great door prizes. Cash prizes in the amount of $300, $200 and $150 will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place team in each flight. Other prizes will be awarded for closest to the Hole and Longest Drive. VBS Pre-registration
