The 1-2 punch of Brendan Smith and John Isaac combined for 41 points and led the Red Devils to 78-61 win over the Merryville Panthers on Saturday afternoon in the Rosepine Tournament.
Merryville got the first basket, but then the Red Devils scored six straight points. Merryville fought back with seven of its own to briefly snatch a lead, before Pickering scored 12 straight points to close out the quarter and grab a lead it would not relinquish.
The eight-point Red Devil first quarter lead swelled to 13 at halftime and 15 at the end of the third quarter as every time the Panthers were able to get consecutive baskets, Pickering had an answer.
Smith led the Red Devils with 21 and Isaac added 20 as well as playing big on the defensive end.
Chris Flemones led the Panthers with 28 points and John Hobbs added 16.
The Red Devils go to 3-0 on the season, while Merryville drops to 0-2.

The DeRidder Lady Dragons held off a strong Pickering Lady Red Devil charge to win, 57-51, in Saturday afternoon basketball action at the Rosepine Tournament. 
DeRidder jumped on Pickering early and was eight points up at the end of the first quarter. The lead was seven at halftime and nine at the end of the third. 
But Pickering would not go quietly, and at the 4:55 mark, the game was tied.  But the Lady Dragons held Pickering to only four points the rest of the way to close out the close win.
Pickering was led by Natasha Webber who had 15 points. 
For the Lady Dragons, Krystal Sowells and Rayna Childs both had 14 points.
