With just over three minutes to go, the Anacoco Lady Indians owned an 11-point lead over the Pickering Lady Red Devils after a free throw from Amber Sharp.
So with the game on the line, Pickering head coach Vickie Sketoe called on a couple of unlikely heroes to lead the way.
Enter seventh-grader Sami Thomas and freshman Kourtney Norris.
The youngsters combined for 12 points during a 16-5 surge to send the game into overtime, where the Lady Red Devils eventually picked up a 61-52 victory over the Lady Indians.
Pickering (3-1) took the first lead of the game on a bucket from Nastasha Webber, but Anacoco (3-10) got a three-pointer from Sharp, which started a 15-5 run by the Lady Indians, which ended on a bucket from Shawna Boose to put the hosts up, 15-7.
A bucket from Stephany Foley stopped the run temporarily for the Lady Red Devils, but four free throws from Boose in the latter stages of the first period gave Anacoco a 19-11 lead.
Behind the play of Brittany Merchant and Sharp, Anacoco increased its lead to as much as 13 points during the second quarter, as the Lady Indians were up, 29-16, after a driving layup from Merchant.
However, Pickering managed to get back to within 10 points at the break, thanks to a free throw from Norris and a bucket by Foley, leaving the Lady Red Devils trailing, 29-19.
In the third quarter, Pickering got to within five points on one occasion, but by the end of the frame, Anacoco was back up by 11 points, thanks to a 6-0 run which saw Jordan Moss, Boose and Merchant each hit a shot.
Webber got the Lady Red Devils to within nine early in the fourth with a pair of free throws, but Anacoco maintained its hold on the lead after a pair of free throws from Abby Mango and a bucket from Emily Guay.
Webber nailed 1-of-2 foul shots to get Pickering within 10 points, 45-35, but Sharp answered with one on the other end with 3:23 remaining to up Anacoco's advantage to 46-35.
But just one minute later, the Lady Red Devils were within four, thanks to two free throws from Katie Haymon, along with five points from Norris, trimming the deficit to 46-42 with 2:24 to go.
Another Haymon basket got Pickering even closer, but a free throw each from Sharp and Merchant allowed Anacoco to go back up, 48-44.

With 14.5 seconds to go, Thomas drained a three-pointer to get Pickering to within one, 50-49.
Just two seconds later, the Lady Indians got 1-of-2 free throws from Merchant to take a 51-49 lead.
But Sketoe designed the perfect play during a timeout, which saw Norris score on a layup with just over four seconds to go, sending the game into the extra 4-minute session with the score deadlocked, 51-51.
Aaliyah Sheppard gave Pickering the lead for good with a bucket in the post early in the overtime and added a couple of free throws later on to seal the deal.
Norris led Pickering with 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Thomas finished with 12 points. Webber and Haymon chipped in with nine and eight points, respectively.
