Monday evening after a traffic stop on Browns Lane in Pickering, a deputy with the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Donnie Evans of Leesville.
“The deputy immediately started noticing that things weren’t right,” said Sam Craft, Vernon Parish Sheriff.
The deputy discovered a shopping bag pushed under the driver’s side seat which contained approximately one pound of marijuana. The driver later admitted to the deputies that he was just trying to make some extra money for the holidays according to Craft.
Once Evans was booked into the jail, deputies discovered that his real identity was Michael Larry of Muncie, Ind.
“He was wanted on a drug charge out of Indiana and decided to settle down and blend in here in Vernon Parish,” said Craft. “But because of a good job by our patrol division, he is where he needs to be, in jail awaiting extradition.”
Deputies later obtained a search warrant for Larry’s residence and found residual amounts of both marijuana and cocaine. He was booked into the VPSO jail for possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of cocaine, simple possession of marijuana and misrepresentation during booking.
The passenger in Larry’s vehicle, Christopher Dean, was also arrested during the traffic stop and booked for possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute. According to Craft, the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are pending.
