A ground breaking ceremony for the new Fort Polk PX will be Friday December 19 at 10:30 a.m. on the North side of the current PX in the associates' parking lot. The new PX will be located just West of the existing Class 6 Store and between the Class 6 and the Child Development Center.
The 131,000 sqare foot  complex will take 18 months to 2 years to build with a planned early 2010 completion  and will include the PX, five food services and seven concessions/vendors. The Fort Polk Military Clothing Sales will move into the new complex also.
Plans call for in-house vendors of Burger King, Charley’s Steakery, Subway, Anthony’s Pizza and, in the mall area, a Starbucks.
 The current Ft Polk PX on Colorado Ave. is 44,000 square feet, dates back to the mid 1980's and employs 100 with a total Fort Polk post-wide AAFES employment of 300. 
AAFES stands for Army, Air Force Exchange Service.
 Following the completion of the new PX, the current PX building will be torn down to create the new store’s parking lot.
