Morris Tire of Leesville is collecting school supplies for its second annual Stuff the Bus project.
Stuff the Bus began last year as a way to provide school supplies for students in need. Morris Tire collects supplies and monetary donations, which are used to purchase supplies.
“Our goal is to provide school supplies for kids in need throughout the parish,” said Donny West, store manager. “All supplies are needed, from crayons and construction paper to pens and scissors.”
The Stuff the Bus program in its first year collected thousands of pounds of school supplies, allowing students in need to begin school with all of the supplies they needed.
“We began this program last year after talking about it for months,” said West. “We wanted to be able to do something to give back to the community.”
The drive will begin July 1 and will continue through Aug. 6. Throughout the project one of the Vernon Parish school busses will be parked in front of the store as a friendly reminder.
“Last year people would buy backpacks and fill them with everything you could think of and drop it off, “ said West.
“I also want to thank everyone who assisted in the project last year and hope that this year’s project can be as successful,” said West.
