Financial institutions in Natchitoches recently teamed up with Northwestern State University during for a month-long membership drive for the university’s capital campaign “Excellence:  Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow.”

Sabine State Bank, First Federal Bank of Louisiana, City Bank & Trust, LaCapitol Federal Credit Union, Bank of Montgomery, People State Bank and Exchange Bank competed against each other to sign up the most people to the Excellence Team.  Exchange Bank was the winner with the most Excellence Team applications during that time.

The Excellence Team is the premiere giving club for NSU’s capital campaign.  Members agree to donate $12.50 per month to the NSU Foundation.  The unrestricted funds will provide scholarships to NSU students and support to faculty and staff. Private support is important to Northwestern as the University has undergone a series of budget cuts. Members also receive a tax deduction for their contributions.

As a thank-you, merchants in Natchitoches and across the country have agreed to provide discounts to Excellence Team members.  When someone signs up for the Excellence Team, they will receive a card to show to participating merchants.  A complete list of participants can be found on the NSU Alumni Association website, www.northwesternalumni.com.

“Excellence: Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow” is the second capital campaign in the history of Northwestern State University.  Campaign leaders have set a goal of $25 million dollars by June 30, 2012.   The campaign is being chaired by John and Lynne Manno of Shreveport.

“We know times are tough for everyone out there, but we feel each person who has a connection to Northwestern State University can afford to give $12.50 a month to help our students,” said Manno, co-owner of Southland Printing Company.  “Lynne and I both attended Northwestern, as well as our children, and we want it to be around when our grandchildren are ready to go to college.”

Honorary co-chairs of the campaign are Ted and Carmen Jones of Baton Rouge, Joe and Milo Dow of Houston and Bryant and Heloise Lewis of Haynesville.  For more information on donating to the campaign, contact the Office of Alumni and Development at (318) 352-4414 or donate online at www.northwesternalumni.com.
