The Rapides Parish Sheriff's Department reported that a two-year-old boy died June 21 as a result of heat exhaustion. The boy was trapped in a car.
According to Chief Deputy Herman Walters, the child was outside playing with other children around 4 p.m. when he apparently got into a car and couldn't get out. When the other children missed him and told the mother, she immediately began to search for the child, whom she found in a vehicle unconscious.
Medics arrived on the scene to perform cardio-pulmonary resuscitation. The child was then airlifted to Rapides Regional Hospital where he died.
