The Joint Readiness Training Center and Fort Polk hosted a ground-breaking ceremony June 23, at 8 a.m. to commemorate future construction of a Veterans Administration Community-based Outpatient Clinic. The clinic will be located on La. Hwy. 467 North in Leesville.


The Joint Readiness Training Center and Fort Polk hosted a ground-breaking ceremony June 23, at 8 a.m. to commemorate future construction of a Veterans Administration Community-based Outpatient Clinic. The clinic will be located on La. Hwy. 467 North in Leesville.
Construction is expected to begin Nov. 1 with an estimated completion date of March 1, 2011. The facility will encompass 15,500 square feet and support an estimated 2,500 veterans and 7,000 clinic visits per year.
The Veterans Affairs Outpatient clinic is expected to open in April 2011 with 30 employees.
Services to be provided include primary care, mental health, pharmacy education, phlebotomy, nutrition counseling, medical social work and more.
Guest speakers at the event were Col. Francis Burns, Fort Polk garrison commander, and Roger D. Welch, acting director of the Alexandria VA Medical Center.
