  • Jacob Lewing, 23, of Hornbeck was arrested Feb. 14 by Vernon Parish Sheriff's deputies and was charged with theft under $500, possession of Schedule III narcotics and simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling in reference to incidents he had allegedly been involved in with his cousin, Thomas H. Lewing, 28, also of Hornbeck.
Thomas Lewing, who was arrested on Feb 10, received the same charges for his alleged involvement in the crimes, which took place in the Hornbeck community while the occupants of the residence were not at home.
The two men allegedly stole money and miscellaneous items after they forced their way into an inhabited dwelling and were found to have Schedule III narcotics in their possession when they were apprehended by sheriff's deputies.
Thomas Lewing was arrested three days prior to his Feb. 10 arrest for a probation and parole violation charge and Jacob Lewing was arrested and charged on Jan. 3 for forgery.
Jacob Lewing, who had been arrested on Jan. 3 by Vernon Parish Sheriff's deputies, was charged with forgery in reference to incidents he had allegedly been involved in with his brother, John W. Lewing, II., 28, also of Hornbeck.
According to Marvin Hilton, chief of detectives at the Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office, Jacob Lewing was an involved party in the forgeries committed by his brother, John Lewing, allegedly committing some of the forgeries, but not all of them.
Thomas Lewing has a history of drug involvement stemming from an incident on March of 2009 after Vernon Parish Sheriff's deputies responded to an apparent overdose at a residence on Jett Road, according to Vernon Parish Sheriff Sam Craft.
It was at that time that a 911 call for medical assistance at the residence led Vernon Parish Narcotics Task Force agents to arrest not only the subject suspected of having overdosed, but also three family members for possession of narcotics. At the time Thomas Lewing, then 26, was arrested and charged with possession of controlled dangerous substance III; possession of legend drugs and criminal conspiracy.
Bond for Jacob Lewing for the Feb. 14 charges against him was set at $8,500 and he was released from the Vernon Parish Jail on bail.
