Editor's Note: The following is the sixth in a series of articles concerning propositions that will be on ballots throughout the parish on April 30. Of the 13 propositions, five will be put before the entire parish, while two will concern Town of Rosepine voters; two will concern voters in Road District 3; two will concern voters in Road District 4; and two will concern voters in Road District 1.

Vernon Parish voters will consider on April 30 whether to continue a 10-year 5.94 mills property tax for maintaining and improving the Vernon Parish Courthouse and Courthouse Annex buildings.

The proposed millage is a .69 increase of the 5.25 mills tax authorized to be levied through the year 2011 approved by voters October 20, 2001.

The tax will result in an estimated $687,073 annually for a period of 10 years beginning with the year 2012 and ending in 2021. The funds are to be used for maintaining and improving the Vernon Parish Courthouse and Courthouse Annex Buildings.
