Marilyn Tate was recently recognized by the Vernon Parish School Board as the support person of the year for the parish at the high school level. Tate is the receptionist and SIS secretary at Rosepine High School.
Support personnel include custodians, cooks, paraprofessionals, secretaries and bus drivers. The school board receives nominations from each school which are then submitted to a committee tasked with choosing one person each for the elementary, junior high and high school categories to represent the parish.
"These people are dedicated individuals," said Tommy Neubert, Director of Child Welfare and Attendance. "They don't make a great deal of money, but they show up everyday."
Rosepine Principal Steve Thomas described Tate as a people person who often takes on the role of mother for teachers and students alike by loving and and even scolding when necessary.
"She is one of my dearest friends," said Thomas. "She is always energetic and always smiles."
Tate has been at Rosepine High School for almost 15 years, and with good reason.
"I love my school," she said. "I love what I do."
