All Simpson needed to do was win on Thursday against Pitkin to win the outright District 5-B championship.
Mission accomplished.
Seniors Kyle Myers and Kyle Busby sparked the Broncos to a 6-1 victory over the Tigers, getting a little help from sophomore pitcher Jared Parker en route to claiming the win.
Parker gave up just one run on four hits with 13 strikeouts, a much better outing than last Saturday, when he gave up 12 runs to Pitkin on the road in a game the Broncos eventually won.
The Broncos (18-9-1, 9-1) took a 1-0 lead after the first inning of play, but the Tigers (15-11, 5-5) managed to tie it up in the top of the third when Chris Jenkins reached base and scored on an RBI-single off the bat of Logan Johnson.
But Simpson scored a run in the bottom of the frame to reclaim the lead and tacked on four more in the bottom of the fourth to open up a five-run advantage.
From there, Parker did the rest, leading Simpson to the win.
Myers went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored in the contest, while Busby was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Parker had a double and an RBI to aid his own cause, while Kevin Martin had a hit, an RBI and a run scored.
Johnson suffered the loss pitching for the Tigers, while also going 1-for-2 with an RBI. Jenkins was 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored.
Neither team has a game scheduled for the rest of the regular season. However, both will be in the playoffs and likely hosting a first-round Class B playoff game.
