The Hornbeck Hornet athletic program has had quite the year.
The Hornet cross country team was the runner-up at the Class B state meet back during the fall, while the basketball team won the District 5-B crown and reached the state quarterfinals before bowing out Rapides.
Hornbeck's baseball team recently took second in district play, while the track and field team won the 5-B meet and has qualified five athletes for the Class B state track and field championships at LSU next week.
Now, you can add the Hornet golf team to that successful resumé.
Hornbeck took second place in the team standings at the Region II, Division VI golf tournament, which was held Tuesday at the Cypress Bend Golf Resort, located near Many on Toledo Bend Reservoir.
The Hornets finished just behind regional champion Florien and ahead of Rapides, which qualified for the state tournament, which will be held at the Atchafalaya Golf Course in Patterson on May 3-4.
Three members of the Hornet golf team finished in the top 10 of the individual standings, with Matt Alford carding an 89, which was good enough for second place overall.
Braley Browning recorded a 95, good enough for fourth, while Matthew Killian finished in 10th with a score of 109.
Alford, Browning and Killian, along with teammate Trevor Beverly, are coached by Tim Parker.
The winner of the regional tournament was Dylan Williams of Florien, who fired an 80 is some tough, blustery conditions.
