Brig. Gen. K.K. Chinn, commanding general of Fort Polk and the Joint Readiness Training Center, was on hand during the opening sessions of the Louisiana Senate and House of Representatives earlier this week.
Chinn also met with Gov. Bobby Jindal concerning economic development in the area.
The meetings were part of the annual Day at the Legislature hosted for economic development regions throughout the state.
"It just so happened that the Cenla Chamber of Commerce and the SWLA (Southwest Louisiana Alliance) days were back to back," said Eddie Wise, executive director of the Vernon Parish Chamber of Commerce and a member on both the Cenla and SWLA boards.
Wise said that Vernon Parish is in the unique position of being included in two separate regions of economic development, that of Central Louisiana and Southwest Louisiana.
According to Wise, Senator John Smith enabled Chinn to meet with Louisiana's Secretary of Transportation, Sherry LeBas, concerning long range planning of highway entrances into Fort Polk.
Chinn later met with Gov. Jindal with a delegation from the Cenla and Vernon Parish chambers of commerce as well as the SWLA.
Wise said that Chinn also spoke briefly during the opening session of the Senate on Wednesday and then again at the House of Representatives an hour later.
