In April, The Vernon Parish Police Jury celebrated its inaugural Military Appreciation Month in conjunction with National Association of Counties (NACo) month. 


In April, The Vernon Parish Police Jury celebrated its inaugural Military Appreciation Month in conjunction with National Association of Counties (NACo) month. 
The police jury building was decorated with a patriotic theme and a new flag honoring all branches of the military, which now flies along with the U.S. and state flags outside the building.  
Command Sgt. Maj. Jeffery Hof was the guest speaker and during the military appreciation ceremony at the Chill and Grill event April 30, while the Vernon Parish Police Jury honored the Fort Polk soldier and NCO of the year.
Entertainment for the event was provided by The Old Men Band (Jerry Blair, Kenny Pollard, Kenny Williams and Dwight Rachal) and Henry Reggans and The Sidemen. A spokesperson said the Vernon Parish Police Jury will continue to dedicate the month of April as military appreciation month and will hold a military appreciation ceremony honoring the Fort Polk soldier and NCO of the Year as well as all veterans active and retired each year at the Chill and Grill event.
