Councilwoman Alice Guess, along with the Leesville Lady Cats softball team, were recognized for their dedication and hard work on Monday at the Leesville City Council meeting.
For her "tireless organizational efforts and community activism" with the Mayor's Youth Council, Leesville Mayor Robert Rose issued Guess a certificate, stating she is a "credit to our council and our city."
The Leesville Lady Cats were also applauded for all of their accomplishments this year, receiving a certificate from the council for representing their high school and the city well. Micheal Elliott (district four), who attended the playoff games in Sulphur, said the turnout was unbelievable from Vernon Parish and that the team played together, with a different star in every game.
"You guys were the cardiac kids," he said.
The city of Leesville also received the 2012 Honorary Award from the Louisiana Trust for Historic Preservation for upholding the "fabric" of the city. Sam Kincade, Main Street manager, said this was a great honor and accepted the award in Baton Rouge on Thursday.
