The Jubilee Park Committee, a non-profit organization founded in 2008, held its annual Back to School Giveaway event on Saturday at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center in Leesville. Roughly 100 children attended the event, and the committee held games and other activities for the kids, as well as served them hot dogs, chips and drinks. Afterwards, the committee provided school supplies to the children, thanks to donations from the Vernon Ministerial Association, American Legion Post 387, Central Texas College, American Legion Post 510, Wal-mart, and various churches and residents. The event is one of three annual events held by the committee, along with the decoration of Jubilee Park at Christmastime, and the Prayer Breakfast, held annually on the last Saturday in February.
