Sheriff Sam Craft of the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office (VPSO) hosted a multi-jurisdictional intelligence meeting on Sept. 21 in the second floor courtroom of the historic court house in Leesville.
Agencies represented included the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office, Leesville Police Department, DeRidder Police Department, Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office, Sabine Parish Sheriff’s Office, Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office, Jasper Police Department, Beauregard Parish Narcotics Task Force, and the Vernon Narcotics Task Force.
Craft hosted the meeting in an effort to provide participating agencies with an opportunity to establish points of contact within other law enforcement agencies.
Investigators and narcotics agents attended the meeting in an attempt to share intelligence information regarding thefts and narcotic abuse within their jurisdictions.
“I believe that establishing a good working relationship with surrounding law enforcement agencies is vital to identifying and addressing persons who may be engaged in criminal behavior," Craft said. "Persons engaging in this type of activity tend to travel within different jurisdictions in an effort to hamper investigations and evade arrest. Often, multiple law enforcement agencies will experience a pattern of criminal behavior that the same person or persons are responsible for.  A unified effort by law enforcement agencies will strengthen investigations and shared information will hopefully prevent the increase of certain crimes such as property thefts and narcotics trafficking.”
Craft reminds the public to contact their local law enforcement agencies if they observe any suspicious behavior within their neighborhood. He also expressed gratitude to all of the law enforcement agencies and officers who participated in the meeting.
