Three upcoming events in Vernon Parish will benefit James Tipper, the Rosepine police officer who was killed in an accident on Aug. 16.
A brisket dinner will be hosted by Bailey's Bakery on Sept. 26. Brisket plates are $7, and will include brisket, potato salad, baked beans, bread and dessert. Pre-orders are due by Sept. 26 and can be made by calling Rusty Bailey at Bailey's Bakery at (337) 238-7800. Business orders are welcome. A 10-plate minimum is required for delivery, but dinners can be picked up on Sept. 28 at Bailey's Bakery.
A law enforcement memorial ride will take place on Oct. 20 starting at the West Louisiana Forestry Festival Fairgrounds in Leesville. Registration will take place from 10 a.m. to noon; the cost is $25 per rider and $10 per passenger. Individuals and clubs are welcome to attend.
The ride will depart at noon and will consist of a route around Toledo Bend Lake. Registration fees include a meal, which will be served upon return to the fairgrounds. A closing ceremony will also include performances by local musical talent and recognition of sponsors.
Custom t-shirts will be available for $15 each, and presale t-shirts are available. Shirt sizes are adult small through 3 XL.
The memorial ride is being held in an effort to pay the funeral and burial expenses for Tipper.
