Despite pounding out a 16-play, 60-yard drive that took over 10 minutes off the clock in the third and fourth quarters, and having the ball within the DeQuincy 25 with less than a minute to play, the Pickering Red Devils (1-4, 1-1) couldn't overcome a late touchdown and fell to the DeQuincy Tigers (2-3, 2-0), 14-9 Friday night at Red Devils Stadium.

After Pickering, leading 9-8, was stopped on a fourth-and-10 at the DeQuincy 28, the Tigers' Jacob Pruitt scampered for 71 yards to give DeQuincy the lead, 14-9.
"I had all the confidence in the world when we went for it on fourth and 10 that we were going to get the ball back," Pickering head coach Lane Cook said.
"I applaud my guys' efforts, and you hate when they put forth that much effort to lose a ballgame," he said.
"It's a big win for us, because we kept our compusure there at the end," DeQuincy head coach Carl Flanagan said.
Before Pruitt's 71-yard run, Pickering held the Tigers to 39 yards total offense in the second half, and just 80 yards in the first half. Pickering finished with 206 total yards, but only managed 39 yards in the first half.
"We didn't control the line of scrimmage (in the first half) like we did in the second half," Cook said. "If we'd have done that in the first half, I think the win would have been ours."
DeQuincy got on the scoreboard first via a safety due to a botched snap by Pickering that rolled out of the end zone. In the second quarter, Latif Armita hit a 35-yard field goal to give Pickering the lead, 3-2, but Lester Johnson scored late in the second quarter to give DeQuincy the halftime lead, 8-3.
Less than three minutes in the third quarter, Daveon Banks rushed for 38 yards to help Pickering retake the lead, 9-8. Pickering held that lead until Pruitt scored in the fourth quarter.
Daveon Banks led all rushers with 101 yards on 14 carries, and Josh Langston ran for 53 yards on 14 carries for the Red Devils. Pruitt led all Tigers rushers with 97 yards on two carries, and Chas Smith ran for 60 yards on 12 carries.
Garrett Collins completed two of five passes for six yards for Pickering, and his counterpart, Luke Melancon, failed to complete a pass for the Tigers. Devin Whitley and William Anderson each caught passes for the Red Devils.
Pickering hosts Kinder (4-1) next Friday, while DeQuincy faces Lake Arthur (4-1) in DeQuincy.
