Two arrested for attempted theft of truck from local business

From Staff Reports

Two men from Humble, Texas were arrested in Vernon Parish Sunday after stealing a truck and several utility task vehicles (UTVs) from a local business.
Jerry Shipman, Jr., 22, and Jerry Goree, 31, were each charged with one count of theft of a motor vehicle by the Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office.
According to the VPSO, a deputy was on patrol early Sunday morning when he noticed a 1-ton truck pulling a gooseneck trailer with four new partially-assembled Polaris UTVs on U.S. 171. The deputy ran registration on the truck and found it belonged to a local business, and the deputy activated his lights after determining that the business was not open at that time in the morning.
When the deputy activated his lights, the occupants of the truck slowed down and bailed out of the truck into the woods along U.S. 171 near New Llano. With the help of the VPSO K-9 unit, along with the Louisiana State Police, Leesville Police Department and New Llano Police Department, officers located Shipman and Goree huddled in a wooded area.
Deputies later contacted the owner of the UTVs on the trailer, who confirmed that they were in fact stolen from the business.
Other charges are pending against both individuals; the VPSO is also investigating the incident as being possibly connected to similar thefts in Vernon Parish and surrounding parishes, as well as in East Texas.
Both remain in the Vernon Parish Jail.
