Over 80 dishes were turned in for the 2012 Vernon Parish 4-H Food Festival competition, held Nov. 19 at Leesville Junior High School. Contestants were required to prepare dishes and bring them to the school's cafeteria to be judged on taste, appearance and whether or not they followed the rules and regulations for each contest. These contest areas included beef, egg, healthy living, pecan, poultry, seafood, sweet potato and wild game cookery.

Champions in each category except healthy living and wild game will have the opportunity to go on to the District Competition in March in Alexandria, where 13 parishes will compete.
Champions from this year's event include Casey Williams, from Vernon Middle; Brianna Maroney, from Evans Elementary; Wade Morrison, of Anacoco Senior; Lauren Paddy, of Rosepine Junior; Hunter Minion, of Evans Senior; Maygen McMahon, of Rosepine Elementary; Bailee Degley, of Rosepine Elementary; Mason Bloodworth, of Simpson Elementary; Bowen Farquhar, of Rosepine Senior; Ethan Dupree, of FTCA; Coleen Reese, of Anacoco Senior; Austin Leger, of Evans Junior; Jewel Sharbeno, of Pickering Elementary and Olivia Henson, of Pickering Elementary.
