Leesville High School JROTC cadets, accompanied by members of Chapter 727 of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, made a pre-Valentine's Day visit to the VA Hospital at Pineville.
The trip was in fulfillment of a JRTOC service learning project in which the cadets were to identify, plan, and performed a needed community service. The cadets chose to make this pre-Valentine's Day visit to show Veterans how much they appreciate the many sacrifices they have made to secure freedom, and to let them know that they realize freedom is not free.
The cadets interacted with numerous veterans throughout the hospital and Community Living Center; they gave out over 350 Valentine cards and donated some 75 health and comfort packs, which included socks and t-shirts. The trip was sponsored in part by Chapter 727, MOPH, who also paid for the cadet's meals at the conclusion of the visit.
