A New Llano man was arrested by the Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office after allegedly accidentally shooting another New Llano man.
Brian Alexander Dixon, 21, was charged with one count each of illegal use of weapons or dangerous instrumentalities, and one possession of drug paraphernalia on March 3.
According to the VPSO, 911 operators received an emergency call at approximately 10:22 p.m. Sunday, in which a caller, later identified as Dixon, advised emergency personnel that he had just arrived at his apartment to find his friend suffering from a gunshot wound.
Emergency personnel, as well as deputies and detectives from the VPSO and the New Llano Police Department, responded to the residence, and Michael Heatherly, 25, was located; he was suffering from a single gunshot wound to the chest.
Heatherly was immediately transported from the location to an Alexandria hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment and is listed in stable but serious condition.
Under further investigation, Dixon indicated that he had pointed a firearm at Heatherly and pulled the trigger. Dixson indicated that Heatherly was shot accidentally, due to the fact that Dixon did not realize that the safety mechanism was not activated on the weapon.
Dixon's bond was set at $6,000, and he remains in the Vernon Parish Jail.
