The Vernon Parish School District has seen a slight increase in its LEAP and iLEAP test scores in 2013, the Louisiana Department of Education announced Wednesday.

The Vernon Parish School District has seen a slight increase in its LEAP and iLEAP test scores in 2013, the Louisiana Department of Education announced Wednesday.
With an average of 82 percent of students in grades three through eight scoring basic or above on the LEAP and iLEAP tests in Spring 2013, the parish ranks fifth (tie) in the state. The 82 percent mark is a one percent increase from Spring 2012.
Since Spring 2009, the parish has seen a five point increase, and has increased by at least one point each year.
Zachary Community School District ranked first in the state with 89 percent of its students scoring basic or above on the tests. Central Community School District was second at 86 percent, Orleans Parish third at 84 percent, Plaquemines Parish fourth at 83 percent, and Vernon and St. Charles parishes fifth at 82 percent.
