In the midst of volunteering for the Beauregard/Vernon Community Pregnancy Center over the past several years, Theresa Allen knew she was where she belonged.
"My heart was just there with the girls at the center," Allen said. "When the position [of executive director] came open, I thought maybe I could do even more."
The Community Pregnancy Center has announced that Allen will be its new executive director effective June 4.
Allen has more than 38 years of professional experience, and she comes to the center after holding numerous managerial positions with BellSouth.
A big focus for Allen when she takes over as director will be to show girls that they still have a bright future ahead, she said.
The main goals are to help girls who have dropped out of school get into a GED program and to help provide childcare so that obtaining an education is feasible for the mothers.
"I just want them to know there is a future," she said. "I want to give them some pride to still go out and try to make a good life for them and their child."
Allen is a member of First Baptist Church in DeRidder and an Awana T&T Leader. She has volunteered at the pregnancy center since 2010.
