The Pleasant Hill Baptist Church held its 20th annual Family Day ceremonies on May 18 at the church, with officials praising this year's turnout.
The events kicked off with a talent and fashion show at the Veterans of Foreign Wars building, post 3106. Rev. Joseph Garner, pastor of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, said that the event had a "capacity crowd," and Erin Knight, of Little Rock, Ark., was the guest singer. He said there were over 30 people in the fashion show, and six competitors in each of the youth and adult divisions of the talent show.
The Saturday events kicked off with a walk benefitting Michelle Lord, a 10-year-old girl who has cancer. Pleasant Hill Baptist Church pledged to donate $5 to Michelle Lord's family for each participant in the walk. The event had 159 participants, and the church donated $1,000 to Lord's family.
The events continued with outdoor concerts, including by Sean Ardoin, Maistro Craig Adams and the Voices of New Orleans, and the Concert Boyz of Zwolle, as well as crawfish and more.
Garner said that future Family Day celebrations will help local families in need.
"Each year, we are going to help one family in need with our Family Day celebration," Garner said.
The Pleasant Hill Baptist Church holds its Family Day celebration on the third weekend of May. The celebration is open to the community.
