  • The Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office has announced several recent arrests, including two for narcotics violations.
    Akbar Pirani, 21, was charged with one count each of possession of Schedule I narcotics with the intent to distribute, distribution of Schedule I narcotics, and possession of Schedule IV narcotics on May 30.
    According to the VPSO, the Vernon Parish Narcotics Task Force arrested Pirani after they found 412 10-gram bags of synthetic cannabinoids, a Schedule I narcotics, with a street value of approximately $8,000. Pirani also had over $7,500 in cash on his person.
    He was booked into the parish jail, and his bond was set at $22,500.
    LaCamp man arrested for possession, resisting arrest
    Gage Aaron Doyle, 21, was charged with possession of Schedule I narcotics, simple escape and resisting an officer.
    The VPSO reports that after Doyle was arrested, he escaped custody for a short period of time. He was apprehended without incident, however.
    His bond was set at $8,850.
    Leesville man charged with possesion of synthetic marijuana
    On May 31, Chad Alan Haymon, 21, was charged with possession of Schedule I narcotics — second offense and operation of a vehicle with a suspended driver's license by the VPSO.
    The arrest came after agents with the Vernon Parish Narcotics Task Force criminal patrol executed a stop on a vehicle operated by Haymon. During the traffic stop, Haymon was found to be in possession of a quantity of synthetic cannabinoids.
    Haymon was booked into the parish jail, and his bond was set at $5,339.
    Leesville residents arrested for possession of marijuana
    Marty McKee, 42, was charged with possession of marijuana — second offense on May 31, and Kelsey Schenk, 17, was charged with one count of obstruction of justice on the same date in reference to the incident.
    At approximately 6:20 p.m. on May 31, agents with the Vernon Parish Narcotics Task Force Criminal Patrol conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling on West Hawthorne Road. During the stop, a quantity of marijuana was found in McKee's possession. While the stop was being conducted, agents observed Schenk ingesting what they believed to be marijuana.
    Both were booked into the Vernon Parish Jail; McKee's bond was set at $5,000, and Schenk's at $2,500.
    Evans man arrested for failure to pay child support
    Randy Mack Smith, 27, was charged with one count of operation of a vehicle with a suspended driver's license, as well as on a bench warrant for non-payment of child support on June 3.
    The arrest followed a traffic stop conducted by the Vernon Parish Narcotics Task Force Criminal Patrol. Smith was booked into the parish jail, and bond information was not immediately available.
