Kimberly Lord, 17, was chosen as a state finalist in the Miss Louisiana Pageant held on July 3 and 4 in Lafayette. Lord, the daughter of Diane Lord, is a member of cheerleading and gymnastics squads as well as Big Brothers and Big Sisters, and the 4-H club.

Gallery One EIIIeven in Leesville recently announced the distribution of its Call to Artists for the Second Annual Competition Exhibition. The deadline for entries is July 15, 2011, and the exhibit will be on display at the gallery in Leesville from September 10 through October 15.

Mayfest to kick off Friday

The Vernon Parish Arts Council will conduct its 35th annual Mayfest Arts & Crafts Festival in the Downtown Leesville Historic District May 6-7.

NSU to host Basoon Recital

Dr. Douglas Bakenhus will hold a baroque bassoon recital Monday, March 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public. He will be accompanied by Dennette McDermott on flute, Ruth Drummond on cello and Elena Kuroda on harpsichord.
