Northwest Louisiana native artist and forestry preservationist Catherine Dormon spearheaded the creation of the Kisatchie National Forest when Louisiana forests were being harvested like winter wheat.
Her paintings of Louisiana’s natural beauty have been heralded worldwide and the effects of her preservationist activism can be seen throughout the state.
And now she is back, forty years after her death.
Catherine and two more remarkable Louisiana women are portrayed on the Hearn Stage this weekend in Alter Ego Productions presentation of Carolyn Woosley’s critically acclaimed play Louisiana Visionaries.
Along with the fiery and often funny Catherine Dormon, you will meet Kate Chopin, the passionate Louisiana 19th century feminist author plus the Presbyterian Women’s leader, abstract sculptor, and civil rights advocate, Clyde Connell.
Three outstanding theatre professionals, Molly Markwick, Donna Rigdon Jones and Carol Anne Gayle portray these fascinating women under Ms. Gayle’s direction.
Louisiana Visionaries will be performed this Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 PM and Sunday at 2:00 PM at the Hearn Stage of the Kress Theatre at the corner of 3rd and Johnston in Alexandria. Tickets are $15. For reservations call (337)515-6479 or go to www.louisianawomenonstage.com.
