On Tuesday, December 14, 2010, the Leesville Daily Leader will be printing a special section of the newspaper that will be produced entirely by Vernon Parish children in Head Start through 8th grades.
We encourage your students and your children to submit copy to ldleadernews@gmail.com.
We are looking for:
--"news" stories about events and happening in your schools, communities, churches and families. Some examples might include sporting events, guest speakers at your school, the birth of a sibling or cousin, birthday parties, family reunions or get-togethers, church events or just about any event that your student or child believes is appropriate and wants to write about.
--photos of any and all of these events.
--hand-drawn pictures from our children who may not write. They can be scanned and then emailed as jpg files.
--feature stories. These can be about anything your child or student thinks is worthy of attention. Perhaps a story about a grandparent, parent or other special relative, a friend, or a teacher. Maybe your child wants to write about a sports team, local or national. Special places and things are also possible ideas. The possibilities are as boundless as your child's imagination.
--Photos and/or hand drawn pictures should accompany the stories.
All of the stories or pictures should be entirely produced by the children and be clearly labeled with the student's name, age and school.
At this point, we don't believe we'll edit the submissions unless we absolutely have to. We're looking to not only showcase our children's talent but to give our "adult" readers some smiles at what our children come up with. We encourage you and your students or children to have fun with this and submit as many items as you want.
The deadline for submitting copy is Friday, November 19 at 5 p.m., the day before the Thanksgiving Holiday for Vernon Parish children. We will showcase the best of the submissions in a special section in our Tuesday, December 14 issue, which will come out a week before Vernon Parish children are let out for their Christmas holiday.
We are looking forward to seeing what our kids can do!
Feel free to pass this along!
