Members of FedEx Freight delivered 400 Christmas trees to Fort Polk soldiers and families on Dec. 13 as part of the Christmas SPIRIT Foundation Trees for Troops Program.
A tree lighting ceremony at Fort Polk's Main Post Chapel Dec. 1 featured lots of holiday cheer, including musical entertainment, a tall Christmas tree lit with large white lights and a visit from St. Nick, pulled by white horses while his reindeer take a much-needed break before their worldwide flight. The Vernon Parish Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday to introduce the new Market Basket location at U.S. 171 and La. 28 on the North edge of Leesville near the new roundabout. The new $9 million store is one of 30 Market Basket stores, half of which are in Louisiana. The company is headquartered in Texas. The store is 41,000 square feet, four times as large as the previous store.
