The Mayor's Women's Commission (MWC), in conjunction with the Keep Leesville Beautiful Committee, will host its annual Trash Bash and Cleanup Week beginning Monday, April 3, going through Friday, April 7.

The Mayor's Women's Commission (MWC), in conjunction with the Keep Leesville Beautiful Committee, will host its annual Trash Bash and Cleanup Week beginning Monday, April 3, going through Friday, April 7.

Groups from all local civic organizations, churches, schools and clubs are invited to participate in the event, while also engaging in a little friendly competition. Each group will pick up trash in a designated area of the city, with the gathered trash being weighed at American Moving and Storage beginning at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, April 8.

Volunteers will return to Liberty Garden Park for lunch and awards presentation, hosted by the MWC. Liberty Gardens Park is located across from the Vernon Parish Library.

The top prize for collecting the most trash is $100.

Residents are encouraged to clean their properties and the city will offer a lending hand. Crews with the public works department will dispose of items such as tree limbs, boards and other items as listed throughout the week.

The item pick-up schedule is as follows:

April 3: Tree limbs.

April 4: Boards, tires, etc.

April 5-6: Old furniture, appliances.

April 7: Paint products, household chemical products.

Progressive Waste Management will have roll-a-ways for residents to bring discarded items to American Moving and Storage. They will be on site from 7-11 a.m. from April 3-7.

Cleanup Week will conclude with the annual Spring Trash Bash.
