PITKIN — Chloe Paul drove in four runs, while Brilee Nolen and Alyssa West each had three RBIs as the No. 9 Pitkin Lady Tigers downed the No. 24 Hornbeck Lady Hornets in the first round of the Class B playoffs on Monday evening, 13-1.

With the victory, the Lady Tigers improved to 16-9 overall and will play against No. 8 Glenmora on the road at 5 p.m. Thursday for the right to advance to the state tournament.

The Lady Tigers wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as they pushed two runs across in the first inning.

Pitkin really began to pound the ball in the bottom of the second, scoring seven times in the frame to open up a 9-run lead.

The Lady Tigers continued to pile on the runs in the third and fourth innings, eventually working their way out to a 13-0 lead.

Hornbeck managed to break into the scoring column in the top of the fifth with an RBI-single off the bat of Madison Smith to score Megan Ellis.

However, that would be it for the Lady Hornets as the Lady Tigers advanced to the next round.

Sadie Cooley took the win in the circle for the Lady Tigers as she gave up an unearned run on three hits with two strikeouts and two walks.

Paul went 3-for-3 at the plate with four RBIs, while Haylee Ash was 3-for-3 with three runs scored.

Nolen and West each went 2-for-3 with three RBIs in the contest for the Lady Tigers, while Holley Ash was 1-for-1 with three walks and four runs scored.

Ellis suffered the loss pitching, giving up eight runs on six hits with one strikeout in an inning and two-thirds.

Smith led Hornbeck with two hits and an RBI, while Ellis was 1-for-2 with a run scored in the loss.
