Leesville is brainstorming ways to support Fort Polk families during deployments.

The City of Leesville and the Mayor's Women's Commission hosted a town hall meeting today. They are asking local businesses, churches, and civic organizations to band together with them to provide opportunities for deployed soldiers' families.

Some of the suggested activities are potlucks, game days, movie nights, holiday and sporting events, traveling exhibits, among others.

Donna Jones, of the Mayor's Women's Commission, said these events do not just have to be in Leesville. They can extend throughout Vernon Parish or even state-wide.

"This is why I choose to live here," said Leesville Mayor Rick Allen. "Leesville Main Street, the Mayor's Women's Commission, Fort Polk Progress, and Vernon Parish Tourism have always led the way when it comes to supporting the military at Fort Polk. They are not worried about money or recognition; they just want to show the U.S. Army that the families are in good hands."
