A weekly evening of food, games, entertainment, and camaraderie is coming to Leesville.

For five consecutive weeks this summer, beginning on Friday, June 30, the new Patriotic Food Park will be set up at Polk theatre in Leesville.

Each week will include a variety of food trucks, family-friendly games, different bands and genres of music. Plans are in the works for games of corn hole, washers, and horse shoes.

Grant Bush, of Leesville Community Development and Planning, spear-headed this project to create an alternative for Friday nights. In lieu of going to restaurants or spending a lot of money, this is a good option for families to get out of the house to do something which is fun for everyone, he said. He is hoping to bring a popsicle business to the park, for the kids.

Some work and decorating has to be done to the area in preparation for the weekly event. Bush said there is an electric pole at the park which has to be relocated. They will also be putting in stage curtains and rugs each night, and strings of lights for ambiance. Also, picnic tables and other areas for sitting and eating will be installed. "It will be rustic and patriotic, with lots of different kinds of music," said Bush.

He already has bands and musicians lined up to perform, such as Brad Brinkley, Cody Forrest, Henry Reggans, and Ceth Talbot. For now, the music will be acoustic in nature, but that may change over time.

Local business sponsorship will be integral in the implementation of the Patriotic Food Park. These sponsors will be helping to fund costs such as entertainment fees and equipment.

Summer hours of operation, for this free event, will be every Friday evening, beginning June 30, 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. on East Texas Street, Leesville.
