More than 100 Northwestern State student-athletes participating in competitive seasons this spring were recognized for their 3.0 GPA or higher on the Southland Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll announced Tuesday.
More than 100 Northwestern State student-athletes participating in competitive seasons this spring were recognized for their 3.0 GPA or higher on the Southland Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll announced Tuesday.
Eighteen of those 103 student-athletes boasted 4.0 GPAs in the spring semester.
Women’s tennis posted the highest percentage of student-athletes (all eight) making the honor roll with women’s basketball (85 percent), baseball (75 percent), softball (68 percent) and women’s track and field (54 percent) all having more than half of their team qualifying.
Women’s track and field’s six student-athletes with 4.0 GPAs led the way as Erin Sitarz, Jaqueline Rushford, Gerianna Lyons, Kylie Nodorft and Brooke Petkovich made straight As.
The baseball team had five perfect student-athletes, including Colby Koontz, Emile Lege, Jake Rice, Kyle Swanson and Cameron Taylor.
Judit Castillo, Elizaveta Gerasimova and Vladislava Litvinova paced the tennis team.
Both men’s and women’s basketball had two 4.0 student athletes with Koontz and Sabri Thompson representing the men and Libba Gilliam and Beatrice Attura representing the women.
Elise Vincent and Emma Hawthorne set the standard on the softball team.
NSU was one of eight Southland Conference schools to post more than 100 student-athletes on the spring list.
