A Leesville man has been arrested for the neglect and abuse of horses in his possession.

Issac Grant, 68, of Leesville, is charged with two counts of aggravated cruelty to animals.

According to Vernon Parish Sheriff Sam Craft, photographs, circulating around social media, showed chains around the horses' necks, cutting into their skin. In the photos, the horses appeared to be malnourished. Craft has confirmed that the photos are legitimate.

Two horses were removed from the property by the sheriff's office. Two others were found in less severe condition. They, too, have been removed from the property. However, one of the four neglected horses had to be put down, due to the severity of his condition, said Craft.

Swanny Creek Ranch, in Leesville, has taken in the seized horses, and will care for them until they are adopted.

Bond has not been set for Grant, who remains in the Vernon Parish Jail.
