The Vernon Parish District Attorney’s Office brought formal charges, today, in connection with the investigation into the death of Willow Rain Molina-Renteria, formerly of Hornbeck.

The Vernon Parish Grand Jury returned an indictment on Rodney D. Bailey, Jr., the child’s former babysitter, for the crimes of obstruction of justice and second degree cruelty to a juvenile.

If convicted on those charges, Bailey faces up to 80 years at hard labor and a fine of not more than one

hundred thousand dollars. Bailey is currently serving a prison sentence relating to charges from Beauregard Parish.

The District Attorney’s office obtained a warrant on Bailey for his new charges from Vernon Parish.

After the execution of that warrant, Bailey will be transported to Vernon Parish to begin his court proceedings in the 30th Judicial District Court. 

Sheriff Sam Craft, of the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office, reported in May 2016, that Willow was reported missing from a home in Vernon Parish on May 5, 2016. She was discovered deceased in Beauregard Parish on May 6, 2016.

According to the autopsy report Willow’s death has been ruled a homicide and the date of her death has been determined to be Wednesday May 4, 2016.

Rodney Don Bailey Jr. was the caregiver of the child when she died, said Craft.
