Leesville Mayor Rick Allen took a group of members from the MLK Community Center Summer Program on a weekday getaway to his camp.
Approximately 40 children from around Leesville enjoyed a day with water works, boat rides, 4x4 rides and a lunch of hot dogs, on Thursday.
The day away was a chance for the kids in the program to get out of the center and into nature for awhile.
"This was the first time we've ever done this," said Sonny Harrell, Allen's Executive Assistant. "We wanted to schedule some activities where the kids can have something different to do and leave the center to go outside. We were trying to incorporate some outings this summer to see how that would work out. It was a success, and next year, we plan to add some more trips to the program."
Anacoco Mayor Keith Lewing and his wife, Carol, provided the boat, and Jason and Jamie Oreno Green donated the inflatable water slide.
The MLK Community Center Program, in its 22nd year, is the longest running summer program in the area and has 95-100 participants each summer.
