A 56-year old woman was pronounced dead after an 18-wheeler hauling logs flipped over and caught on fire this morning on Highway 171 South, near Pickering High School.
Mona R. Manchester of Vidalia, Louisiana, was the passenger in the vehicle, when the truck lost control and went off the right side of the highway. The accident occurred at 6:25 a.m, according to a press release from the Louisiana State Police.
The vehicle hit a guard rail, and a concrete bridge rail, before rolling over and catching on fire. Mona Manchester was unable to get out of the vehicle.
The driver, Allen D. Manchester, escaped the vehicle with moderate injuries and was sent to Rapides Regional Trauma Center.
The investigation into the accident remains open, and routine toxicology tests are still pending.
