The Jubilee Park Committee held their annual school supply giveaway event Tuesday at the Martin Luther King Center in Leesville.

The event saw more than 200 children receive the school supplies they need including crayons, paper, glue, notebooks, pencils, pens, calculators, and various other back to school necessities.

The event started in 2008, and has grown significantly with each passing year. The event had several dedicated volunteers donating their time and resources to ensure that children in their community got the supplies they need.

With the rising cost of school supplies, some families simply cannot afford all of the items their children need to start school. The Jubilee Park Committee uses this event as a way to help out families in need.

“Without the support and donations from our resources and committed volunteers, the event would not have been a success.,” District 2 Councilwoman and Secretary of the Jubilee Park Committee Willie Kennedy said.

Monetary donations came from the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority,

Saint Paul Baptist Church, and Jesus Christ House of Prayer, Wal-Mart, Ms.

Barbara Cotton, Ms. Cathy Price and Mr. Willie Shaw.

Members present were Lue Kennedy, Willie Kennedy, Regina Wells, Parthenia D. Beal,

Ramona Bonner, Lydia LaSane, Luella Gordon, Rickie Johnson, Robert Waller, Debra

Edwards Cassandra Wilson, and Angela Williams.

Volunteers present were Billie Sims, Pamela Anderson, Marie Watkins, Tan Johnson, Ms.
