For the last four decades, Brandon Veterinary Clinic has kept the business in the family for Vernon Parish.
Started by Dr. George D. Brandon in September 1977, after his time in the Army, the clinic is now operated by George, Dr. Jesse Brandon and Jesse's wife, Dr. Amanda Brandon.
"I have looked up to my father all of my life," Jesse said. "Being able to work with my father and wife, Dr. Amanda, every day is truly an honor and dream come true."
The clinic is available for different animals from cats and dogs to horses and cattle. The services provided include boarding, grooming, pharmacy, digital radiography and emergency services, along with other ways to take care of livestock and pets.
"Since my wife and I have joined my father in practice, we have been able to increase our diagnostic, medical, and surgical capabilities for our clients with more veterinarians available," Jesse said.
While working with animals may feature some getting to interact with adorable animals, the job is not all glitz and glamour. "The job can get stressful at times. There are some that believe our job is mostly playing with puppies and kittens all day," Jesse said. "While I may get to see some cute animals in my day, I’m also juggling a number of other patients with illnesses that they cannot communicate with me about. My job would be a lot easier if my patients could talk to me about how or what they are feeling."
Located at 300 N. Verone St. in Leesville, Brandon Veterinary hopes to continue improving as they keep the business going. "As a mixed animal practice with a long standing history with Vernon Parish, we are always looking to better ourselves and our practice for our clients and their pets," Jesse said.
With 40 years into the business down, Brandon Veterinary plans to expand its operations -- size and services -- to keep up with the demand.
