Motorists traveling between Vernon Parish and Texas, or vice versa, on La. Hwy. 8 will need to use a different route for much of the time over four days beginning Monday.
The crossing is the key connector between West Central Louisiana and East Texas, routinely used by commercial, military and general traffic.
According to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, the Hwy. 8 bridge over the Sabine River, locally known as the Burr Ferry Bridge, will be closed for the most part of the day beginning Monday to allow inspection.
The bridge will be closed from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. daily, according to DOTD.
The posted detour for eastbound traffic is from LA 191 north to LA 392 and east to LA 111 for Eastbound Traffic. For westbound, it is LA 111 north to LA 392 and west to LA 191 South.
The bridge was damaged in flooding of March 2016 and closed from then until January of this year.
Cost of the repair project which included the shoring up of pilings and the replacement of concrete footings and the addition of extra foundations was about under $5 million.
