After an investigation into a shooting, Vernon Parish Sheriff Sam Craft announced the arrest of Zachary Mosley, 30, of New Llano who witnesses say shot and killed his father.
The New Llano Police Department received the initial call regarding an incident at approximately 10:15 p.m, Monday, on Clarence Avenue.
Upon arrival to the scene, New Llano Police Officers and Vernon Parish Deputies located Andrew Mosley Jr., 56, deceased within the residence.
Zachary Mosley, the son of the victim, was identified by witnesses at the scene as the person who had shot his father. He fled the residence after the shooting.
In an effort to locate Zachary, local law enforcement agencies immediately began a canvas of the area.
In order to share information regarding the incident, Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office Detectives contacted investigators with the DeRidder Police Dept. and the Beauregard Parish Sheriff's Office.
This collaboration effort led law enforcement officers to a residence located on North Texas Street in DeRidder around 11:15 a.m. yesterday.
Officers and investigators from the DeRidder Police Dept., Beauregard Parish Sheriff's Office, and detectives from Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office surrounded the residence, where Zachary was taken into custody, without incident.
He was transported to the BPSO and was formally charged with one count of Second Degree Murder. He will be moved to the Vernon Parish Jail.
Bond was set at $2 million by 30th Judicial District Court Judge C. Anthony Eaves.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
Craft thanks the Leesville, New Llano, and DeRidder Police Departments and the Beauregard Parish Sheriff's Office "for their hard work and their professional courtesy during the course of the investigation and apprehension of Zachary Mosley."
