The Vernon Parish Chamber of Commerce is once again supporting area schools with its Partners in Education program. This is the third year the Chamber has spearheaded this program.
All the public schools and two private schools in the parish have been “adopted” by local businesses.
All sponsors have pledged a minimum $500 in gifts, cash or time over the school year. Business representatives will be meeting with the school principals to learn how they can help.
Vernon Parish Chamber of Commerce President Anne Causey said the Chamber is proud to sponsor the Partners in Education program and proud of the businesses who have stepped up to be a sponsor.
“The program is not only beneficial for Vernon Parish students and teachers, but the community as well,” she said. “It fosters a better sense of understanding of the community's school system, strengthens and improves school programs and curricula, and creates a sense of personal involvement and interaction between organizations and schools. The program is a win-win for everyone.”
Fort Polk Progress Chairman Michael Reese agreed.
“We’re proud that our region, including our business leaders, supports our schools,” Reese said. “It’s because of these kinds of efforts in our community that our Education Initiative is so successful.”
The Education Initiative is an effort by the Vernon Parish School District aimed at ensuring all children in Vernon Parish schools receive a top-notch education. Vernon Parish Schools have seen demonstrable gains in academic achievement, including raising the grade given from the Louisiana Department of Education from a “B” to an “A.” The parish is now one of the top-ranked school systems in the state, ranking in the top ten for the last three years. The Initiative was also the recipient of the 2014 Partnership of Excellence Award from the Military Child Education Coalition.
