West Virginia man dies in Vernon Parish when driver loses control, vehicle hits culvert, trees

A West Virginia man was killed Thursday night when the car he was riding in left Entrance Road, it a culvert and then collided with several trees.

State Police said William Rhodes, 22, was a passenger in a 2017 Subaru driven eastbound by Galvan Alejandro, Jr., 25, of Leesville when Alejandro lost control of the vehicle and left the roadway on the right side.

Rhodes was killed at the scene. Alejandro, who was wearing his seat belt, received moderate injuries and was take to an Alexandria hospital, troopers said.

Alcohol and excessive speed are suspected factors in the accident, according to State Police.

Troop E Troopers have investigated 39 fatal crashes in 2017, resulting in 47 fatalities.
