Merryville senior Andrea Cournoyer has been lighting up the scoreboard all season and throughout her career. In doing so, the Panther guard surpassed the 5,000 career point mark against South Cameron Friday night.

Cournoyer's 5,000 points ranks eighth in all-time in the country and is second in the state of Louisiana. Leading the all-time scoring list is Katie Antony of Anacoco, who scored 6,190 from 1998-2003.

Cournoyer will be playing at University of Louisiana-Lafayette next year as she continues her basketball career.

Cournoyer scored 35 points in Merryville's 76-26 win over South Cameron Friday night at Merryville High School.

The Panthers got out to a 25-6 lead in the first quarter with nine points from Cournoyer and 12 points Maddie Mahfouz.

Merryville increased its lead to 45-10 at half and kept up the pace in the second, outscoring South Cameron 24-4 in the third quarter.

The Panthers had four players in double figures: Cournoyer (35), Mahfouz (17), Jania Williams (11) and Alyssa Duncan (11).
