Community members and supporters of the Leesville baseball team were in attendance to bid on items to raise money for the 2018 Wampus Cat baseball season Monday night.
Over 40 items were auctioned off for a total of $5,600 that will go toward equipment, meals and other baseball necessities.
The highest bid on an item went to a Ruger rifle, which went for $700. Other items up for big were signed baseball memorabilia, signed footballs, Houston Astros tickets, gift cards and other items.
The night began at VFW 3106 with an introduction of the team, a jambalaya and a speech by University of Louisiana-Lafayette head baseball coach Tony Robichaux.
In his speech, Robichaux call on the student-athletes to remain humble and to be better men than athletes. He also called on the parents not to coddle them too much to prepare them for life outside of baseball and other sports.
The Wampus Cat season begins on February 19 at home against Pickering.
